My Story
Heather attended the University of Waterloo where she majored in Social Development Studies with a minor in Sexuality, Marriage and Family. After receiving her Honours B.A Heather remained at Waterloo and completed her Bachelor of Social Work Degree. Upon completion of her second degree, Heather continued on to York University in Toronto where she completed a Masters Degree in Social Work. Heather has certificates from the American Hypnosis Association in hypnotherapy and PTSD and hypnotherapy and trauma and holds the title of Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapist C.Hyp. Heather is an educator/facilitator of the Gottman Seven Principles (Making Marriage Work) program which is a psycho-educational program for couples and is one of 20 therapists in the province of Ontario involved in a conjoint couples study. She has completed an externship in Emotion Focused Therapy with Sue Johnson and is working towards her certification as an EFT therapist. Recently she completed a program with the Crisis Care Network and is now certified to deliver Critical Incident Response support to companies and organizations that have experienced a crisis.
Heather has worked and interned for many different agencies over the years: Community Living, Childrens Mental Health, Child Welfare, various Counselling agencies and a Sexual Assault Centre. In working with couples, Heather uses modalities and a framework that features work by Dr. John Gottman and work by Dr. Sue Johnson. Heather has co-facilitated and led various groups over the years from parenting and adoption, to sexual assault and anger management groups. Heather has a passion for conducting workshops and partnering with other professionals who have complimentary skill sets. Heather is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers and a Registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Recently Heather has opened a private practice in Tillsonburg, Ontario and continues to do counselling work for other agencies on a fee for service basis. She also does work for a large EAP provider as the onsite therapist for a large company in London, Ontario.
